Spring at UC Davis is a season of transition. Students are already eagerly registering for commencement, and just a few weeks ago, we opened our doors to thousands of new students, notifying them of their acceptance to the Class of 2030.
I reflect on the power of collaboration in research, education, and community partnerships that drive innovation and address global challenges and celebrate a major $120 million gift strengthening veterinary and human health work, expanded clinical trials, and interdisciplinary efforts.
I reflect on the start of the winter quarter and the new opportunities opening up across UC Davis, from expanded hands-on learning and internships to global study and research experiences. I highlight our role as an engine of opportunity and community support, pointing to growing enrollment, new academic initiatives, and the strength that comes from collaboration and resilience as our students work to address local and global challenges.
I’m grateful for how UC Davis research partnerships turn discovery into service around the world, from leading a delegation in Kenya to working with communities on climate, health, and food security. Our students and scholars collaborate globally to address shared challenges, translating knowledge into action that benefits people and communities everywhere, whether at home or abroad.
I’m proud of how UC Davis is using artificial intelligence to transform health care—helping surgeons save lives, empowering providers, and improving prevention, diagnosis, and treatment through innovative AI tools. By blending human-centered design with cutting-edge research and real patient impact, we’re advancing care that’s smarter and more proactive for communities here and around the world.
